Liminal Space, Proto-Beings, and the Unconscious Landscape
The original impetus for this series of paintings stemmed from the gestation period of my first child. A fetus's eyes and prefrontal cortex are active while in utero. Being a curious Dad-to-be, I began to wonder what my child might be experiencing in the womb, as it relates to seeing.
This series of paintings stems directly from that musing, but has since taken on a life of its own. Characters and world-building have emerged. The stage and its inhabitants remain cryptic, however, and meaning is subverted to make way for mystery.
